Trying zed editor. It has been good for TS and React this whole week, but had issues with Java and Kotlin. I’ll stick with it a few more weeks to see if I can fully switch.
Arc is dead, and Dia is not there yet, so I’m back to the good old Google Chrome.
Today I got a new 32-inch monitor, Dell U3225QE. My old one is the Dell P2715QT, I’ve been using it for almost 10 years, and my daughter pointed out it’s one of the oldest electronics in the house. Yea, it’s definitely time to upgrade.
I’ve worked with Claude Code the whole day today.
Initially I was nervous, didn’t know what it would do to the codebase. I therefore crafted the prompts very cautiously and reviewed the code changes very carefully. It was exhausting!
Claude didn’t get it for the first try, we iterated a few times and we got the final working solution by the end of the day. I don’t think I would be able to do this task this efficiently on my own since the codebase is brand new to me. I would estimate it as 2 days of work.
Today’s experience was eye-opening, and I definitely will integrate Claude Code into my workflow.
Having fun playing with Claude Code now. This very message is written with Claude Code.
I submitted my citizenship application a few minutes ago. Fingers crossed!
Milestone reached! I made to the parser chapter of Crafting Interpreters.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I knew it would be torturous but I somehow still started playing Dark Souls a few days ago. Now I’m suffering, suffering a lot! I however can’t stop and don’t want to stop. The 5 seconds satisfaction of achievement is just way over the hours of failure and pain.
aficionado [af路ci路o路na路do] (noun)
a person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about an activity, subject, or pastime.
A new journey will begin soon. I’ll Seeq new challenges and learn new things along the way.
I have finally finished the Rust in Motion video course from Manning. It’s now time to build something with Rust!
I ordered a latte from McDonald’s today in order to the use those expiring points.
Huge mistake! The latte was so bad that it makes just letting the points to expire a much better choice!
I’m trying to build the habit of listening to audiobooks while walking my dog. I’ve finished 10 books so far since the beginning of this year. It’s not some crazy number, but I’m very happy about the pace. Slow and steady.
Playing Into the Breach. This game is hard!
Startup failed. Need to start again.
I heard about Tailscale long time ago and I finally got to play with it last night. I can’t believe how easy it is to set it up, it’s the best experience I’ve ever had while trying to set up a VPN. It’s just amazing!
I finally got a Steam Deck, and it is awesome!
The opening ceremony of Paris 2024 was breath taking. Celine Dion’s performance in the end was simply perfect.
Start to play Marvel Snap and I can’t stop!
It’s funny that the Windows version of Slay the Spire running with CrossOver supports my XBox controller out of the box, but the native Mac version doesn’t.
My older kid joined the swim team last fall and the younger one joined in spring. Now both of them can swim way faster than me. I’m very proud of them!
Haven’t updated for quite a while.
We purchased a new house after my last message, and I renovated it all by myself. It took a lot of time and effort, but it was worth it because the result is amazing, better than the previous renovations we’ve handed to contractors. I’m very proud of it.
The new house comes with a swimming pool, so I have to learn how to maintain it. It has been keeping me busy, but I’m enjoying it especially when I see the kids playing in the crystal clear water.
Just finished listening to the book, The Self-Driven Child. It has so many good information and tips on how to be a better parent. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has kids or is planning to have kids.
The Logitech Pro X mouse arrived yesterday, and I’m surprised it’s using micro USB! I got it’s a device from 2020, but still…
I have finally fixed my HHKB BLE bluetooth connection issue tonight.
I’ve (re)started to learn Svelte today. I had battled to choose which one to learn between Svelte and Vue for quite a long time. Since it’s very different from current generation of frontend frameworks like React, Angular, and I want to learn something new, I finally decided to go with Svelte.
I have finally done with my company’s tax refund for 2022 last night. Such a relief!
I’ve been doing my company’s tax for last a few days, it’s a very stressful process because there are way more transactions than previous years. I’ve made a promise to myself that I’ll defintely find an accountant to do the tax next year.
Vite v4 is switched to swc which is implemneted in Rust. It’s the time to learning Rust in order to stay relevant in next a few years.
I just placed the order of a new 14" MacBook Pro with M2 Max + 64GB memory + 2TB SSD. Can’t wait to see how good (or bad) it is compared to my Hackintosh.
My new Hackintosh (i7-13700KF + RX 6650 XT) is so fast; and, OpenCore is a pleasure to work with, much cleaner and understandable than Clover.
Happy hacking :)
The kids/junior fever relielf medicine shortage in Canada is crazy. It’s not just Advil and Tylenol, but anything with “Cold/Ful” on the packaging is gone, the shelves are all cleared.
This summer I’ve fallen in love with video and audio. I’ve been learning everything about filmmaking, and spent a lot of money to purchase gears, of course!
GH Copilot turned to subscription and VSCode’s C# extension closed source. Microsoft starts to be Microsoft, again.
The whole family was hit by COVID-19 last week. It was not terrible, we all had mild symptoms. And, we are recovered now! Woohoo!
Woohoo! Cloudflare email forwarding is enabled for yeis.dev!
I don’t know where I got the sense that a coop boardgame is easy, but I have played two games of Marvel Champions recently, and the villain has dominated me completely without giving me any hope of winning. This has totally changed my perception.
JetBrains IDEs finally got GitHub Copilot support! I just tried it and it’s amazing! 馃帀馃帀馃帀
I just learned that the development of Onivim 2 has gone stale. It’s very sad to see that happens.
Got 100 points for the first time in Wingspan, 104 to be exact. That feels good!
Big Fin is gone today. RIP.
Finally, I’ve started to play Wingspan. It’s definitely a beautiful game, and I’m going to get a physical copy later this year.
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds dicuss people. – Eleanor Roosevelt
Skip the new Space Jam movie unless you’re a LeBron fan.
Bucks won NBA Finals 2021. Giannis had a monstrous performance. Respect. Well deserved champion.
Watched Onward last night, it’s another good movie from Pixar!
I just got the invite to GitHub Copilot, but the issue preventing me from using vscode as my main editor is still there not fixed after a few years…
There is a moisture sensor inside Dynson v10 (other models probably have it as well) to protect the motor from minor water damage. If you accidentally put a wet filter on and the vacuum refuses to work afterwards, don’t panic and don’t throw it away just yet, leave it and let it dry for 2 - 3 days, there is a good chance it will come back to life again.
Just discovered a very useful tool bundlephobia. It’s a package analyzer to show the composition of the package so you know clearly what you’re actually paying for when bringing in a dependency.
Really into Root now. Still learning how to play, but I’ve already fallen in love, can’t stop thinking about it!
I’ve been working with ProseMirror for the last few days, it’s a nicely designed and well built toolkit to build editor on web. I am genuinely excited and want to learn more about it. I haven’t had such feeling for a long time.
I feel Relay at this moment is like Flux in the early days of React. It’s powerful and shows the abilities of GraphQL; but, it’s not very easy to understand and use, the learning curve is steep. You have to go through quite a few hurdles before you can enjoy the benefits that Relay brings to the table.
I’ve switched to JetBrains IDEs two years ago as a life-long vimer and thought I would never forget how to develop in vanilla vim. However, yesterday when I fired up the unconfigured vim to write a small dart program, I couldn’t. I felt it was so hard to type without auto-completion and I wanted to use an IDE or vscode.
That scared me.
I need to jump out my comfortable zone and practice my programming skill more without the help from the tools.
My Logitech G903 has had the double-click issue for awhile, today I finally pulled out my solder iron and changed the micro switch!
Got my first “Aha!” moment with Relay after staring at it for a few weeks.
I’ve started to use tokyo60, need some time to get used to it after using Preonic for awhile now.
The double clicking issue on my G903 has became unbearable, it’s time to open it up, pull my soldering iron out, and change the switches!
I’ve started to watch Star Wars films from the beginning. I initially was afraid that it would be hard to bear because older movies are very slow, but it turned out to be the other way around. I was hooked on the story after the first 15 minutes and couldn’t help but finished the whole Episode IV in one run. It’s not like other recent films which I need to break one up to smaller pieces to consume. This is very interesting! Onto the Episode V now!
Recently tried esbuild, my experience with it is very positive, it’s so much faster and easier to use than webpack.
Started the brand new M1 yesterday morning at 85% battery, went through all the downloads and installations, now it still has 40%. Very impressive!
I missed today’s Move goal. It was just a small gap to close, 20 minutes walk would make it, but I procrastinated until it was too late… Words to myself: this situation has happened too many times, the lesson should have been learned already, don’t let it happen again.
I just did a coffee dripper comparison between the V60 and the Origami, and consumed about 500ml coffee in the middle of the night. Hope I can still get a good sleep tonight.
OK, I got the Kinu M47 Classic. A lot sooner than I originally planned, and it costed me a fortune, but… OMG! Day and night isn’t enough to describe the difference between the Kinu and my $20 grinder; it’s a different world.
Despite how much I like dart, I think it’s a mistake to build Flutter on dart. Just imagine Flutter was using JavaScript at the beginning, it would be a lot more popular by now.
Got my reMarkable 2 yesterday! It’s my 2nd e-ink display device since the Kindle 2nd-Gen. Writing on it feels great and reading PDFs on the big screen is so much better than on smaller devices.
After gettting the Hario V60, I have consumed too much coffee and spent too much money on grinders.
Learning pour over now!
I have researched coffee brewing for 2 nights and purchased the Hario V60 kit. Yep, I’m starting a new hobby.
Maybe it’s just me but I feel it’s a shame that a man needs to find a new job working for other people in order to have a better income.
Now I’m used to the ortholinear layout, typing on the staggered layout has became a problem for me. It’s time to practice the “switching”.
This message is composed in the GitHub Codespaces!
After a week with the Preonic, I’m fully adjusted to the ortholinear keyboard. Absolutely love it!
Writing this message on the Preonic, I have to admit that learning a new keyboard layout is hard and no fun.
One of the disks died last Friday, and my whole Labor Day long weekend was toasted.
OMG! OG Anunoby, what a shot! Lowry, what a pass!
I’m 100% hooked with Harry Potter movies. I don’t why I wasn’t interested in it when it just came out.
A good set of keycaps can really make the typing experience so much better. No more $20 set for me.
Start to study Technical Analysis of Stock Trends. Wish me luck!
I have wanted to join 5AM club for a long time. I tried it this morning. I am very tired and feeling terrible now.
NBA restarted! It’s good to have the games back!
Purchased Crysis Remastered on my Switch! Let’s see what it’s all about.
I’ve decided to rebuild Gemsby’s chat tool with Svelte. Let’s see how it goes.
The Space Force is a pretty good show to watch during this stressful time.
Apple Silicon: Hello World!
Intel: 馃槶
Installed WirdGuard on PI4. The configuration is so simple compare to other VPN solutions, and the iOS app is very nice. I absolutely love it!
Pulled out my Kindle 2nd Gen over the weekend, charged it, then started reading on it. I’m happily surprised that despite of its slow speed, the reading experience is so great, way better than the other phones and tablet I own. Hopefully this time I’ll put it into a good use, instead of just sitting there collecting dust.
Westworld s3 is good, especially when considering what is happening in the world right now.
I’m going to learn svelte this week.
Applied the position of the Tailwind UI team. Fingers crossed馃
It seems there is a rising demand of a notes taking app to write in markdown and save the notes as markdown text files. That sounds just like what hugo does. I’ll try to use hugo for that purpose, and see how it goes.
Wrap to Column is the plugin of JetBrains IDEs you’ll need if you need to wrap the comments in a different width than the code.
I’ve played with deno for awhile today, it seems to be very promising.
My tax return is done early this year! Woohoo!
Fever, broken foot, gout, broken arm. That’s a hell of a week!
I couldn’t hold myself off any longer, I’ve started to watch The Last Dance!
Just read Second-guessing the modern web. It’s a well written article on the current trend of building static content site with React SPA. I agree with it, that’s why this very site is still built with Hugo despite my familiarity with React and the recent hype of Gatsby.
New design is up! WOOHOO!
I didn’t have too much memory of The Matrix Revolutions, and I didn’t expect it to be very good before re-watching it. But, man, I’ve enjoyed it a lot, it IS good!
Matrix movie series are so fun to (re)watch!
